Wednesday morning, April 24th, my nurse woke me up for morning meds. Normally I go right back to sleep, however, this time the nurse had the good news that my WBC went up to 1.26 and my ANC was 1.01. This is exactly what we were waiting for in order to be discharged! Well, not just that, they needed to make sure that I was taking all my meds orally and not through IV, and that I was keeping down adequate fluid.
We spent the rest of the day planning for discharge. There was a lot of post transplant education that the nurse had to review with us as far as diet goes and what kind of special precautions I need to take once I’m home. There will need to be a lot of adjustments once I’m back, especially for the first month post discharge. The case manager set up home health for me so I can receive PT/OT from home. My PICC was left in until my follow up appointment in case I would need any fluid or replacement. I’ll be hanging around locally in Cleveland until my counts come up further before heading back to Pittsburgh. There’s a long road ahead, but I’m ready!
